Reef Tectonics has  been providing aquarium maintenance service and installation for both commercial and residential customers since 1993. The business was started by biologist/aquarist Michael Schied in Lincoln, Nebraska. Because of Reef Tectonics superlative reputation, the business gradually spread to the Omaha metropolitan area and to Kansas City.  As Reef Tectonics' customer base expanded, so too did the number of people the business employed. Reef Tectonics is currently comprised of eight employees, all of which have a passion for aquatic life and the aquariums they maintain.

Reef Tectonics services over 100 aquariums in restaurants, retail stores, hospitals, nursing homes, doctor/dentist offices, and in personal residences. They maintain some of the largest tanks in the region they service, including the marine and freshwater tanks at three Bass Pro Shops (Council Bluffs, IA; Independence, MO; Olathe, KS), the tanks at Blue Sushi Restaurants in Omaha, NE, the show-piece aquarium in the Madonna Rehabilitation Center, Lincoln, NE, and the large aquarium at the Kona Grill in Kansas City, MO, as well as many other larger home systems.
